Who is listed
Each directory lists every firm that the regulator shows as authorised with an office in its area, including local branches of firms based elsewhere. For solicitors in England and Wales, the regulator is the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). In Scotland it’s the Law Society of Scotland, and in Northern Ireland the Law Society of Northern Ireland.
Where the details come from
- The regulator’s record: a firm’s name, registration number, authorisation status, offices, contact details and areas of work. We refresh these every month, and firms cannot edit them on our sites.
- The firm’s own website: a short description in our own words, accreditations, languages, opening hours, accessibility and a link to price information. A person checks these before they are published, and we re-check them at least once a year.
Every fact shows where it came from and the date we checked it.
Listings are free
Every firm is listed free of charge, with all the details a visitor needs to choose and contact it. Those details are never behind a paywall.
How firms are ordered
Firms are listed in a rotating, alphabetical order: each visit starts at a different firm, so every firm gets a fair turn at the top. Visitors can switch to plain A–Z at any time.
Firms can’t pay to change their place in our main list. Any paid placement is shown separately and labelled “Featured”.
Contacting a firm
You contact firms directly, by phone, email or their website. We don’t pass on enquiries, we don’t take referral fees, and we never see what you send.
Claiming a listing
A firm can claim its listing, free, to confirm its details and keep them up to date. A claimed listing is marked “Details confirmed by the business”. That means the firm has checked its details. It is not an endorsement. See for businesses.
When a firm closes
If the regulator shows that a firm is no longer authorised, we remove its listing at the next monthly refresh.
